UTMB® for the Planet
UTMB® for the Planet is our sustainability strategy that embodies our commitment to creating a positive impact on the world. As a global leader in trail running, we understand the importance of our role in shaping a sustainable future for our sport, our communities, and our planet.
UTMB® for the Planet is a promise to our stakeholders, our participants, and our communities that we will strive to make a difference. We are dedicated to preserving the beautiful environments we run in, leaving a positive legacy in every territory we touch, and ensuring the well-being of each runner who joins us on this journey.
UTMB® for the Planet is built on three main pillars
ENVIRONMENT
Support the regeneration of our mountain ecosystems and minimize our impact on the enviroment.
TERRITORY
Leave a positive legacy in the territory.
PEOPLE
Ensure every runner is welcomed and their well-bring protected at Val d'Aran by UTMB®.
ENVIRONMENT ____ Val d'Aran by UTMB® iniciatives:
NO Tee – ONE tree
Our environment is our playground, and we are committed to its protection and regeneration. We aim to minimize our impact on the environment and support the regeneration of our mountain ecosystems. This is why we have launched a number of green initiatives. One of these is our proposed action:
NO tee – ONE tree
The goal of this project is to acquire funds to finance reforestation initiatives and thereby offset environmental damage. Val d'Aran by UTMB® pledges to give a donation towards planting and preserving forest ecosystems alongside a nature conservation association, as part of our mission.
If you wish to collaborate with the NO Tee - ONE Tree campaign, you can refuse to receive the Val d'Aran by UTMB® 2024 T-shirt. Instead, we will donate the money to an association that supports reforestation of natural areas. Further information will be available shortly.
AN ECO-FRIENDLY TRANSPORTATION FOR VAL D'ARAN BY UTMB®
For many years, we have been aware of the need to reduce private car mobility. This is why every year Val d'Aran by UTMB® draws up a transport plan that aims to provide a collective solution for the movement of runners, supporters, and spectators at all the main points along the route.
In 2023, the organisation provided collective buses. 2,980 people opted for this transport service. In 2024, access by car will be further restricted to certain areas of the course and the existing public transport system in the valley will be reinforced with additional UTMB® bus lines.
Leave your car in the car park during the event!
Whether you want to go to the start or follow the race, you can use the organisation's buses to enjoy the event without using your car.
BYOU “BRING YOUR OWN UTENSILS”
In order to avoid wasting disposable plastic cups, plates and cutlery during the race, everyone must bring their own.
The organisation will not distribute any disposable tableware (cutlery, glasses, bowls) at the life bases or aid stations. You are obliged to bring your own cutlery if you want to eat hot food (soup, pasta...) during the race.
WASTE SEPARATION
All the aid stations are equipped with containers with waste separation.
TERRITORY / SOCIAL ____ Val d'Aran by UTMB® iniciatives:
ADDA AND VAL D’ARAN by UTMB®
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
In Val d'Aran by UTMB® we love to have the best people around us. That is why we collaborate with ADDA, the Aran Association for the Disabled, who are in charge of preparing the marking of the event and part of the trophies.
In the three editions of Val d'Aran by UTMB®, different tasks have been carried out during the months leading up to the races: tasks related to the marking of the routes, such as the preparation of the ribbons and the markers which will be distributed throughout the valley; and other more as the creation of magnets and trophy plaques for the winners which require attention and precision.
PEOPLE ____ Val d'Aran by UTMB® iniciatives:
WOMAN IN TRAIL
At Val d'Aran by UTMB® we want to encourage the participation of women in long distance mountain races. We know that there are very few women who dare to undertake this adventure and we want to reverse this situation.
Woman in Trail is an initiative with a clear purpose: to encourage women to take part in this experience, because we know that they are more than capable of crossing the finish line of any distance.
To this end, we are creating a series of specific programmes adapted and oriented to any woman who intends to start or improve her participation in long distance or trail running.
OUR FIRST ACTIVITY, TOGETHER WITH TRANSVIA SPORT AND MALDITO RUNNING
Maldito Running and Transvia Sport launched the first of the actions of the Woman in Trail programme. They organised an experience with the aim of running the SKY Baqueira Beret 15K and discovering the wonders of the Val d'Aran. Sport, gastronomy and lots of experiences.
EQUAL RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
UTMB® strongly believes in equal rights and opportunities for all members of the trail-running community. We are in the process of building inclusion and diversity policies on gender, race, age, social class and more. We endeavour to grow and continue to evolve the sport and to make UTMB® World Series welcoming for each athlete.
