Most runners will never know who saved them from hypothermia or heatstroke in the sun, rescued them from a fall in the middle of the night or activated the helicopter. They will never know who stitched their hand or healed the blister on their foot. All they will know is that, in a desolate place, someone looked them in the eye and knew what to do.
