HOKA Val d'Aran by UTMB® increases the value of its prizes thanks to the HOKA Prize Purse
As part of its ongoing commitment to sport, the UTMB® Group has announced details of the new HOKA Prize Purse. Both the UTMB® World Series Finals, the finals of the circuit held at the end of August in Chamonix, and the UTMB® World Series Majors, which includes HOKA Val d'Aran by UTMB® as the European final, have increased the financial prizes awarded to the winners.
The first runner to cross the finishing lines of the VDA, CDH and PDA will receive 5,000 euros, the second runner, 3,000, the third runner, 2,000, the fourth runner, 1,250 and the fifth runner, 1,000 euros.
This increase in economic remuneration reflects the UTMB® Group's commitment to gender equality and parity in all distances, as male and female athletes will receive the same economic value.
In addition, the amount will be similar in the three main race categories: 100 M, the VDA; 100K, the CDH, and 50K, the PDA.
This increase in the value of the prize money is intended to support the sporting careers of professional athletes.
"It is fantastic to see that UTMB® continues to take steps forward in international trail running to offer a consolidated competition with a larger prize purse. This increase in the UTMB® Finals, as well as the UTMB® World Series Majors, is a great incentive for professionals to prioritise these events and helps to inspire the next generation of runners to take up trail running," said Jim Walmsley, HOKA professional athlete.
Francesco Puppi, member of the Pro Trail Runners Association (PTRA), said he was delighted that "UTMB® Group has decided to consult the PTRA on the new prize money structure for the Finals and Majors of the UTMB® World Series circuit. This is an important step for the professionalisation of the sport and the recognition of elite athletes for the prestige, quality and value they bring to the UTMB® World Series events".
"Increasing prize money is of great importance to us, and to our sport. It is our obligation to our communities. We are proud to support athletes, both women and men, to help them dedicate themselves to their passion, and to enable them to earn a living by competing," said Frédéric Lénart, CEO of UTMB® Group.
