Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® and HOKA Val d'Aran by UTMB®, committed to the recovery of the mountains of Tenerife
On Tuesday 5 June, coinciding with World Environment Day, Pedro Millán, Island Director of the Natural Environment of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Michel Poletti, co-founder of UTMB® Group, Fernando Ordóñez, Director of Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, and Xavier Pocino, CEO of UTMB® Iberia, made a visit to Montaña limón and the El Portillo Visitor Centre in the Teide National Park on the occasion of the No Tee-One Tree initiative.
As part of the sustainability strategy developed by UTMB® Group called UTMB® for the Planet, Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® and HOKA Val d'Aran by UTMB® have launched the campaign No Tee - One Tree by which the runners of both competitions have the possibility of renouncing their technical t-shirt and donating this amount to the reforestation and conservation of the forest mass affected by the fires in the forests of Tenerife.
In this way, UTMB® Cares, a non-profit making foundation created by UTMB® Group will double the donation of the participants for the cause of Tenerife Renace, an initiative of the Foresta Foundation and the Island Council with which environmental restoration actions are planned in the areas affected by the forest fires which started in Tenerife.
In the summer of 2023, the island of Tenerife suffered the worst fire in the Canary Islands in the last 40 years. The flames started on the night of 15 August in the highlands of the municipality of Arafo and ended up affecting a perimeter of more than 90 kilometres. Almost 15,000 hectares were razed to the ground and more than 12,000 people had to be evacuated.
The UTMB® Cares Foundation is a global initiative to unite the world trail running community and create positive change by supporting local social and environmental causes at the destinations of the races on the circuit. Rooted in the values of solidarity, respect, inclusion, authenticity and humility, UTMB® Cares uses the global platform of the UTMB® World Series to influence local positive change by focusing on three main pillars: people, the environment, and communities.
